STEAM Project Newton's Marble Cradle

Because of COVID-19, I am being temporary laid off and my kids are out of children for a certain period of time. We have to do some home schooling.  Besides thinking about academic learning, I still need to think about something else to teach them, including art, physical activities, science experiment, etc.

One of the science activities we did is Newton's Cradle, my kids called Marble Cradle. We were going to experience the scientific theory of force and transformation of energy.

Truth to tell, it's a bit difficult than I expected.

10 minutes: DIY Eye Mask

Can't having a good sleep?

Too much noise? Lights are too bright?  Whatever the reasons are, try this 'eye mask', it may help you to get a good sleep and good dream.

Even kids can make it as well, as a present in Mother's Day, Father's Day or anytime you want to handmade a present for you friends or your family.  Grab a piece of fabric, felt, elastic band as well as needle and thread (hand-sew).  That's all you need!

Mini Sequin Swatch Cushion

All of sudden,  sequin swatch becomes so popular, you can find it on clothes, accessories like notebooks, backpack, pencil bags..... it's quite expensive as well.

I came across a piece of sequin swatch fabric while I was doing shopping. As it packed as craft material, it is relatively cheap.

First idea I came up with is making a mini cushion, my kids can keep it in their bedside, or even take it with them when we are having road trip.

It didn't take long to finish it and it is super easy to make it too. 'Hand-Sew', that is what I did.

I still have few pieces left, as I mentioned early it is relatively cheap, I gave them to my kids and let them have their creativity to make something out.

Can't wait to see what they make it out!

DIY - Halloween Scary Crafts and Decorations

This year (2016), I spend quite a lot of time in decorating our house because I need to think about: What kind of decorations the kids can make???? Of course, it takes more time to finish the decorations even just simple cut and glue, I believe it is very important that kids to be involved in it.

Here comes .... I call it: Garbage Bag Spider Web
REALLY??? Garbage Bag???

Yes, Yes, Yes. Very cost-effective! Just take one of the garbage bag (unused), fold and cut. Then you will get two pieces of spider web. So I put one piece of spider web in the dinning room window.

And cut the second piece of spider web into half, put it on the sitting room windows with origami bat.

Life Memories - Valentine's Day and Easter Holiday

WOWOWO......HOHOHO...............HAHAHAHA..............

SO much FUN!

In Valentine's Day, I got heart-warmth presents from my lovely kids. Thanks for their love to me and of course I love their surprise too.

Sooooooo.........what I am planning to do in Easter????? I think they may not like egg-hunting again this year (because we do it every year), but Rainbow came to ask me to do something special about the egg-hunting, that means she doesn't want NORMAL egg-hunting.

As my passion in handmade, I start thinking, thinking, thinking......

Oh, Aurora wants to do the egg-hunting indoor!!!!!

Not quite easy...but finally, I came to the idea.

First, they have 96 eggs to find, all are hide inside the house (except bathroom and kitchen). They must find ALL the eggs, then open it at once, there are some letters in it for them to solve the riddle to get the Easter presents.

How to do the Easter Hunt?

Second, they have to rearrange the letters and solve the riddle. Rearrange the letters take more time than I think, with Daddy's tips, they finally get the riddle: Egg's Mom???

Life Memories - X'mas 2015

Really appreciated that this year's Xmas, Steve has assigned a really good working schedule that he has consecutively days off with Xmas holidays. We had a extremely busy and fun during the holidays. Beside visiting and gathering with families and friends, did Xmas shopping, Science Centre and Museum visiting, crafting Xmas-related stuff and decoration and gifts........we also did cookies making and playing snow outside.

Cookies making: Guess who has the most fun? I said this year I won't make any Xmas cookies, if anyone want to make it, make it with daddy. So finally I made the dough, and they did all the remaining parts......turned out cookies making over 2 hours and over baked (hard to chew)! But they were really having fun!

Snowman making: Well this year not much snow, they wait wait wait and wait.....OK OK OK.....no more waiting, even not enough snow, we still try to make one. Roll Roll Roll.....keep ROLLING, snow become ball shape, bigger and bigger, snowman body done, and Mom roll the head, done too.
Kids make eyes, nose, hands, and put scarf and mittens, now snowman feel so warm.

I (personally) decided to re-organize my craft table. Look at all those crafting materials and tools, it is a BIG, HUGE project!

DIY - How to make Rhinestone Headband by using Paracord technique

As I mentioned in my older posts that I make hairbows to sell, and at the same time I will custom made hairbows, hairclips and headbands for my two sweeties. As long as they tell me what style they like, I will try to mix and match the materials.

In couple times, I followed my thoughts and ideas to make something for them, even I am very satisfied on what I made but I found out that they like it and not really use it.

Like it because that is mom handmade for them.
Not use it because in deep down, the stuffs that I made for them not really suit their style.

Now I learn that only if they speak out or tell me, means they really want that.

This time my sweetie told me that she likes to wear headbands but not the elastic one. And she likes the headbands sparkle, just like tiara, she wants to be a princess all the times. SO I use......

1) Plain headbands, no pattern on it
2) Purple rhinestone (she likes purple)
3) 1mm cord or thread (I use rainbow-color)

How to make Rhinestone Headband by using Paracord technique

Actually, I made one that just glue the rhinestones on it but after wear couple times, it is quite easily fall apart. I glued it again, it fell apart again after wear.

By using the basic paracord techniques (refer to my post on basic paracord bracelet), I tied the rhinestones with cord to make it really firm that it won't fall apart. IT WORK!!!!

First, using the super glue to glue the rhinestones on the headband.

How to make Rhinestone Headband by using Paracord technique

Second, starting paracord! Just make sure in each knot, you have to adjust it to fit into the rhinestones and headband, it need to be tight.

DIY Projects - How to make Duct Tape Bookmarks and Duct Tape Zip Lock Bag

WOW!!!!

I can't believe that I can think about a craft that only take few minutes to finish. Quick, easy and even my 4 years old sweetie can all do it by herself.

I don't know how the idea came out, I just look around and immediately said: we make a bookmark that we can use it while we are reading. Grap the woodstick (recycle from Ice Lollies) , feathers (pick the color you like), and duct tape.

START MAKING !!!! DONE !!!!

How to make Duct Tape Bookmarks with feathers and popsicle

Story behind these bookmarks:
That afternoon, it took much longer time to put my baby in bed for a nap and I had a feeling that he probably woke up soon. I haven't finish the kitchen work and I have to prepare the supper too. When I came out from the bedroom, my two lovely sweeties looked at me at the same time showing that they were quite bored, nothing to do. Truly they asked me can I do something with them, I really want to but there were tons of kitchen work waiting for me. So my answer is: You too can read the books that borrowed from the library, ok? But their answer is: Mom............

DIY Projects - How to make a Princess Cape and Tiara

How to make a Princess Cape and Tiara
How to make a Princess Cape and Tiara
See What I made for my little daughter..........

Princess Cape made by tulle and ribbon. Tiara made by pipe cleaners, pom pom and some rhinestones.

She always said she is a princess. She is extremely happy and excited when she gets the cape and tiara, of course I am really really really happy that she loves it.

Handmade crafts materials shouldn't be too expensive and it is better to use and think about materials that we already have, at least this is what I always tell my kids about crafting.

This time I only use what I have and only takes me about one hour to finish BOTH.

Life Memories -- Being crazy during this year!

Wow....when was my last post? It should be last year April? May?

It is really a long long long........time since last post.

What happen to me? I can tell last year May, my family and I was really excited as we bought our own house. Being busy in dealing with the bank mortgage as well as moving stuff, I found out that I have third baby too. We are all happy about the coming baby. And most excited thing is my husband's whole family came to here to visit us for the whole summer holiday. So you see, right, all the happiest things happened at the same time.

For me, the worst thing is five days later after we were going to move to our new house, his family was coming too. Oh my god, only five days, our house is full of moving stuff and boxes, everything is messy. How can I tidied up all the stuffs?

Life Memories

Life Memories

Life Memories
